Former Sooner star quarterback Baker Mayfield is day-to-day right now after suffering a contusion to his throwing hand earlier this week during the Buccaneers training camp practice.

Good news, the injury is not considered serious and Mayfield is expected to return next week.

The Heisman Trophy winner had a career year with Tampa Bay in 2024 throwing for a career high 4,500 yards to go with a career best 41 touchdowns.

Mayfield and the Buccaneers have lofty expectations in 2025 with every starter on the offense back. Speaking from training camp a couple days ago Mayfield said, We know we have potential. I think everybody in this building knows that. The roster that Jason [Licht] has built, the chemistry that we have, the standard that [Head] Coach [Todd] Bowles sets each day. Elite is the standard. We realized that we have had mid-season lulls. We have had to scratch late in the year to get into the playoffs. The mindset is to be hungry, be killers, and finish it out early. That is whether [you mean] the games or the season, clinching our division. That is the whole mindset when you stepped on this field."

As for the drama surrounding the Dallas Cowboys, owner Jerry Jones spoke with reporters from Oxnard, California on Saturday after practice. This comes a day after star pass rusher Micah Parsons requested to be traded.

Jones said he would not consider trading Parsons saying, "I think the world of Micah, And that [request] is just a part of negotiation."

Jones spent over 15 minutes answering questions about Parsons' contract saying in part, "You've seen it with other clubs. You go through the process. It is a highly sensitive time when you are guaranteeing someone almost $200 million that is sensitive stuff."
