Groups across Green Country are helping Texas flooding victims.
Lots of people are volunteering or collecting donations to help the people who lost everything.
Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief is sending a team Tuesday to central Texas to help people clean out their homes so they can start the repair process.
They expect to send one team a week for the next four weeks, or longer if they’re needed.
They are always willing to help because groups from other states have helped Oklahoma in times of need.
"[Sunday], I put a text message, a call out, saying, 'hey, we've been asked to come and help,”’ said Jason Yarbrough, the State Director of Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief. “Within a matter of a couple of hours, I had a team leader and a team beginning to form that says they could go as early as tomorrow."
"Being Oklahomans, we experience a lot of devastation with tornadoes and ice storms, you name it that come through,” said Yarbrough. “Because we've been on the receiving end of people coming to our state and helping us in a time of need, the opportunity to go to another state and help them in their time of need is kind of a reciprocating desire."
He hopes people back home will keep the volunteer groups in their thoughts.
"It's an emotional rollercoaster as you go and serve because the joy of helping, but also you get to see the devastation that's happened,” said Yarbrough. “Knowing that we have folks back here supporting us through their prayers and gifts and those things to allow us to go is an incredible blessing."
Erika Slade, the owner of E-Nanny, a nanny placement services, is collecting diapers and wipes at Lolly Garden in Utica Square.
People can drop those off at the store this Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
She knew she wanted to help.
"What is community if you're not there just to look out for one another, to help humans, just in general,” said Slade. “This is just a very small cog in a very, very big wheel, to provide some level of support to those families."
The Oklahoma Task Force 1 is in Hamilton, Texas, where there is widespread flooding.
Tulsa Fire says they have not been involved in recovery efforts yet but they have been dispatched to multiple swift water rescue calls.
It says the mission is life safety and emergency rescue, and once the weather gets better, the team says it will move to search and recovery.
The team also brought K-9s that will help the search team.
The Salvation Army says it has its Emergency Disaster Services staff member on standby and are taking donations on their main donation page.
