>>> Daily Tulsa, Oklahoma, weather forecast story HERE.
Heat-related illnesses usually don't always come suddenly. But for some, they can come on fast, especially in children, older adults, people with health conditions and those working or exercising outdoors. If untreated, warning signs can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke - a life-threatening emergency.
Drink water every 15-20 minutes, even if you're not thirsty. You can add electrolytes to drinks if you're sweating heavily. It's best to avoid caffeine of alcohol, which could dehydrate you.
Limit outdoor activities and use air conditioning or fans if accessible. If you are outside, take frequent breaks in the shade.
Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing. People should avoid dark colors and thick fabrics that trap heat. Also, remember to use sunscreen and re-apply regularly.
The Tulsa cooling stations listed below are open all summer from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. unless noted.
