Construction is moving forward on a new habitat at the Tulsa Zoo that will bring zebras back to the metro for the first time since 2010.

Zarrow Zebra Habitat taking shape

The Zarrow Zebra Habitat is part of the William S. Smith African Wilds, a 7-acre expansion project at the zoo. This marks the second phase of the zoo’s ongoing development plans.

Construction features key new additions

Zoo officials say visitors walking the path between Aldabra Atoll and Helmerich Playground can see construction progress firsthand. Shared images show:

  1. A concrete pour for the H.A. and Mary K. Chapman Zebra Overlook
  2. A full view of the Zarrow Zebra Habitat
  3. The overlook structure from another angle, revealing the length of the retaining wall

Timeline and excitement build

Construction on the zebra habitat began in March. The zoo says it’s excited to welcome zebras back to Tulsa, with the new space expected to be a highlight for visitors once complete.
