85-year-old crossing guard hit by truck, hospitalized in Tulsa

Police said the crossing guard was taken to the hospital for surgery. His condition is unknown.

TULSA, Okla. -

An 85-year-old man who working as a crossing guard at Springdale Elementary was hit by a truck and hospitalized while assisting students across the street on Thursday. He is set for surgery and his condition is unknown.

According to Tulsa Police, the guard was wearing reflective clothing and holding a stop sign. The driver of the truck who hit him, an 18-year-old, remained on the scene and told officers his brakes were not working and he attempted to swerve out of the way but he still hit the guard.

So far, an investigation is still ongoing and a final report will be sent to the DA's Office, who will determine charges, if any.
