Cade Cunningham delivered a breakout playoff performance Monday night, leading the Detroit Pistons to a long-awaited postseason victory at Madison Square Garden.
The former Oklahoma State star scored 33 points in a crucial Game 2 win over the New York Knicks, helping Detroit tie the series at one game apiece.
The victory marked Detroit’s first playoff win in 17 years, dating back to 2008, when the Pistons beat the eventual champion Boston Celtics. Cunningham, now the face of the franchise, was just six years old at the time.
After the game, Cunningham said he’s proud to deliver for a fan base that has waited nearly two decades for a playoff win.
“It’s a great feeling. It feels good to represent the city like we did tonight,” Cunningham said. “It’s something that the city been waiting on for a long time, so we feel good about it and we’re ready to get back to the crib and perform in front of them.”
The Pistons will host Game 3 on Thursday, returning home with momentum as they look to take the series lead.
