With three players scoring under par in the final round, the OSU men’s golf team ran away with the Big 12 Championship at Southern Hills Country Club.
The Cowboys, who finished at 2-under, claimed their 12th Big 12 title in program history and first since 2021. OSU was the only team to finish under par and won by 11 strokes.
Preston Stout said, “I’m really proud of my guys. We are playing really well right now and starting to mesh and peak at the right time. This is when you want to be playing your best golf, and I feel like we all are."
Head Coach Alan Brattan added, “Our depth really showed every single round, and that is what allowed us to drive off with that trophy.”
Stout, Ethan Fang, and Eric Lee made the All-Tournament team thanks to finishing in the top 10. For the second year in a row, Stout brought home the individual title.
The sophomore got off to a hot start on Thursday with birdies on four of his first five holes. Stout went on to finish 3-under on the day and for the tournament. Perhaps even more impressive, the 50th conference medalist in program history didn’t feel well entering the final round.
Stout said, “It was kind of a battle, I was chugging Pepto-Bismol and taking Tylenol and Advil, trying to keep myself levelheaded. I came out of the gates good, and it made it easy on me on the back nine since I got off to such a good start.”
Coach Brattan added, “It was like the Jordan flu game, maybe we will reference this someday. It’s two in a row for him. I wish it was two in a row for us, but you can’t get to two without one, so we will think about that next year.”
The Cowboys receive an automatic big into the NCAA Tournament, with regionals taking place from May 12-14. The selection show will take place on Wednesday, April 30.
