The San Antonio Missions held the Tulsa Drillers' bats quiet for 8 1/3 innings, and the Mission offense woke up, as San Antonio snapped Tulsa's 8-game winning streak with an 8-1 victory at ONEOK Field on Sunday afternoon.
Missions starter Victor Lizarraga was dominant on the mound, pitching 6 2/3 hitless innings.
The Drillers barely avoided being no-hit, getting a pair of hits and a run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
This was almost the second no-hitter at ONEOK Field for San Antonio. On May 31st, 2018, Logan Allen and Jason Jester combined to no-hit the Drillers in a 6-0 Missions win.
San Antonio got on the board in the top of the third inning thanks to a sacrifice fly to right. The Missions added two more runs in the fifth inning thanks to a pair of run-scoring singles to push the lead to 3-0.
The big blow came in the 6th inning thanks to Eli Wilson's three-run home run onto the berm in left that doubled the lead to 6-0.
Former OSU Cowboy Zach Ehrhard broke up the no-hit bid with a single to center with one out in the ninth inning. Nelson Quiroz would hit an RBI triple to drive home Ehrhard to end the shutout.
Starting pitcher Luke Fox suffered his first Double-A loss in his 5th start with the Drillers. The lefthander gave up three runs on six hits in five innings. He struck out four without issuing a walk.
The loss kept the Drillers from completing their first six-game series sweep since the 2023 season. That year, they swept Northwest Arkansas at ONEOK Field from May 23-28. Prior to that, Tulsa’s last six-game sweep came 25 years earlier, in the 1998 Texas League Championship winning season, with six victories on the road at El Paso from July 9-14.
Following an off day on Monday, the Drillers will open an important six-game series in Northwest Arkansas with the Naturals on Tuesday night. The two teams are battling for the second playoff spot from the Texas League’s North Division.
