The Tulsa Air & Space Museum is launching a high-powered campaign with a clear mission: bring the iconic A‑10 Thunderbolt II—known affectionately as the “Warthog”—to its permanent home in Oklahoma.
Dubbed Operation Warthog, the effort seeks to preserve the legacy of the beloved aircraft while paying tribute to a decorated pilot and inspiring a new generation of aviation enthusiasts.
The museum’s A‑10 display will serve as a lasting tribute to retired Col. Kenneth Craib, a former A‑10 pilot. His name will be permanently inscribed on the aircraft in recognition of his service and contributions to the U.S. Air Force.
“This is about more than displaying a plane,” organizers said in a release. “It’s about honoring those who flew it and ensuring their legacy lives on.”
The A‑10, famous for its unmistakable GAU-8 Avenger cannon sound—often mimicked as “BRRRRT”—is known for its close air support capabilities and combat durability. First introduced in the 1970s, the aircraft became a symbol of American air power and tactical resilience.
Museum leaders expect the restored aircraft to arrive in late 2025 or early 2026, where it will become a centerpiece of the museum’s expanding exhibits.
Supporters are invited to join the Tulsa Hog Squad, a new community initiative tied to the campaign. Donations of all levels are welcome, and members will receive tiered perks such as commemorative gear, exclusive event invites, and behind-the-scenes access.
Higher-level contributors may even have the opportunity to leave their mark on the exhibit itself.
Whether you’re donating in honor of a veteran or simply love aviation, museum officials say there’s a spot in the squad for anyone who wants to help “Land the Hog in Tulsa.”
Beyond honoring a single aircraft, the campaign is a call to action for Tulsa and beyond. Operation Warthog is designed to engage veterans, families, aviation buffs, and educators in preserving a piece of American military history.
