The City of Tulsa is preparing to launch a $2.1 million construction project in the Kendall Whittier neighborhood, and the Tulsa Farmers’ Market says it’s ready to work around the disruption.
The project will replace water lines along East Admiral Place between Lewis and Harvard avenues and rebuild the intersection of East Admiral and Lewis with ADA-compliant ramps and sidewalks, new curbs and gutters. City officials say the intersection will remain open throughout construction.
“We will break that down between eastbound and westbound traffic so that there is movement through that intersection possible at all times,” said Chris Gimmel, City of Tulsa construction manager.
Work is set to begin later this month and is expected to finish in February.
Tulsa Farmers’ Market executive director Kris Rosson said the market has no plans to leave or relocate during the project. Instead, organizers will add more parking maps and traffic control plans to help visitors navigate the area.
“To make it through complications like this, we deeply rely on our customer base to keep showing up, keep shopping local, and don’t forget about us even if the intersection is less than ideal to travel through,” Rosson said.
Rosson added that the market has been through construction challenges before.
“Folks may remember us on Cherry Street. That construction did completely disrupt our operations, which is how we ended up in Kendall Whittier. We feel confident we can work with the city and the contractor to get through construction swiftly and with ease.”
The market’s “Tulsa Farmers’ Market To Go” program, which began a soft launch in May, allows customers to buy food online and pick it up.
“The Tulsa Farmers’ Market averages 70 vendors every Saturday,” Rosson said. “The online ordering system gives us more flexibility on getting those products to consumers. We’re very excited that this year we’ve been able to expand access by having two in-person markets and an online ordering option.”
The market plans to keep its Saturday market and online ordering going into 2026. The midweek Wednesday market will continue to run only from May through August.
