A former St. Francis Hospital employee has been charged with caretaker abuse after investigators say he physically assaulted a patient with a traumatic brain injury.

According to Tulsa police, Anthony Crump was working at the hospital when the patient attempted to eat their EEG leads. Officers say Crump became aggressive after the patient spat on him twice — allegedly punching the patient, putting his hands around their throat, and covering the person’s face with a blanket.

The incident was captured on surveillance video and witnessed by three other hospital employees, police said.

St. Francis Hospital released a statement confirming Crump is no longer employed there.

"Upon learning of the incident, Saint Francis Hospital leadership immediately launched an investigation and took swift action, including dismissing the employee. We hold our staff to the highest standards to conduct and remain fully committed to that."
