With the school year sneaking up, some families may struggle to get everything their child may need. The Back to School Neighbor Fest aims to make that easy.
The first-ever festival, organized by Northside Neighbors, is designed to support local north Tulsa families as they prepare for the upcoming school year.
“A number of families just don’t have the resources in order to provide all of the needed provides for children to go back to school, so we want to be a gap-filler, whether that means providing a backpack to a student or providing paper or pencils, those type of things that are needed…we want to be able to do that,” said Executive Director Reggie Ivey.
North Tulsan attendees enjoyed free meals, live entertainment, family-friendly games and community resources. More than 500 backpacks, as well as pens and binders, were available free of charge. The Tulsa Health Department was on site for immunizations and health screenings. A community resource tent with more than 20 organizations and community service providers was also available.
Northside Neighbors brings together residents and partners to foster thriving neighborhoods and communities, ensuring that every neighborhood becomes worthy of those who call it home. Ivey says they refuse to let any family fall behind, and their support is unwavering.
“Northside Neighbors is in this for the long haul,” he said.
