Tulsa attorney Lashandra Peoples-Johnson joined News On 6 to analyze the ongoing federal trial involving music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs. Combs is facing three major charges: racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution.

Prosecutors allege Combs ran a criminal organization that exploited women, using "force, fraud or coercion in sexual acts," according to Peoples-Johnson. In addition, he is accused of organizing transportation for escorts to engage in illegal activity.

Trial Complicated by Legal Hurdles

The trial has stretched on for weeks in New York due to its complexity and legal delays. Peoples-Johnson pointed to "extensive witnesses" and "closed-door sessions" as factors contributing to the length. She also highlighted recent issues involving juror credibility.

A juror was removed after court staff discovered he did not live in the proper district. "It is very important that during jury selection these jurors display credibility and candor," Peoples-Johnson said. The judge ruled the removal necessary to maintain the integrity of the proceedings.

Defense Strategy Focuses on Consent

Combs’ legal team is arguing that the charges are overreaching and that the alleged sexual activity was consensual.

"They’re saying that everything that happened sexually was consensual," Peoples-Johnson explained. The defense claims there is a lack of evidence to meet the burden required for conviction on the specific charges.

What’s Next in the Case?

The defense is expected to present its case within days, possibly calling only a few witnesses. This would contrast the prosecution’s extensive witness list, a common tactic in high-profile federal cases.

If convicted, Combs could face life in prison. Peoples-Johnson noted he is "facing life for racketeering" and decades more for the other charges. The trial continues to generate widespread interest due to Combs’ celebrity status and the serious nature of the allegations.
