Students in Broken Arrow are back in the classroom for the 2025-26 school year, returning to campuses that have seen significant changes over the summer.

From new academic spaces to expanded safety measures, the district says it’s working to meet both educational and security needs.

New classrooms and campuses

Construction crews spent the summer adding classrooms to two elementary schools and completing the new Sequoyah Eighth Grade Center.

District leaders say the additional space will help accommodate a growing student population.

Focus on safety

This year, the high school is surrounded by a new perimeter fence, and secure vestibules have been added to several buildings.

“Students in today’s society, you can’t ignore the fact that school safety has to be the number one priority and they feel more comfortable with this fence being built and more secure during the day,” said Broken Arrow Public Schools Superintendent Chuck Perry.

The district also added two more resource officers, bringing the total to 14 stationed across schools, including elementary campuses.

Fine arts expansion

A new fine arts wing at the high school is now open, providing upgraded facilities for the district’s expanding arts programs. Administrators say the addition will give students more opportunities to explore music, theater and visual arts.

Cell phone policy continues

A statewide policy limiting cell phone use in schools takes effect this year, but Broken Arrow adopted it early. Perry said the district saw positive results after implementing the change last year.

“I’ve had a lot of high school students tell me it has caused a lot more interaction of peer-to-peer talking to one another during a class to people they may not have really connected with before,” Perry said.
