The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is investigating after a Cherokee County deputy shot and killed a woman Tuesday night in the Briggs area of Cherokee County.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a domestic violence call and found the suspect had badly beaten a 74-year-old woman.
CCSO says the deputy went inside the home and the suspect, a 34-year-old woman, had a sharp object and refused to drop it.
Authorities said she made a sudden movement toward the deputy, who then shot her in the upper body with a handgun.
She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died, CCSO said. The 74-year-old victim was taken to a Tulsa hospital for treatment, her condition is unknown.
The OSBI is investigating the case and the deputy involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave.
