Widespread storms are bringing flooding to much of Green Country.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for areas normally impacted by flooding at Bird Creek near Owasso.

CAR FLOODED

A woman visiting from Kansas City is now trying to get her car fixed after heavy rain left it partially submerged in floodwater.

The Elm Creek Park area in Owasso was one of the areas impacted by the flooding.

Some houses saw flood water up to their front yards.

Emily Elkins was in town from Kansas City for a high school graduation when she woke up to find her car deep in water.

"It was really great until this morning, when I woke up to my boyfriend telling me that my car was flooded,” said Elkins. “I thought he was joking, until I looked out the window, and it was up to here."

She says with the help of neighbors, they were able to get the car out of the water and into the garage, to keep it safe from the storms moving in overnight.

"The streets were flooded pretty bad so we had to wade through all of it, and when I went to the car, it was up to my hips,” said Elkins. “We had to go hook everything up."

She says luckily there are several mechanics in the family who have already gotten to work getting her car back up and running.

KEEPING PEOPLE SAFE

Owasso Police say they have been putting barricades up to try and keep people from driving into flooded roads.

“So, this event was not unexpected,” said Boatman. “We’ve been waiting for this for a few days now having deal with some other severe weather. Today going into it we knew it was going to be raining a lot so we were prepared for barricades and roads that were going to be flooded.”

Officers say if you do end up surrounded by water, call 911 and get to the roof of your car if that’s possible, regardless of what part of town you’re in.

"Some areas in Owasso are right on the fringe areas between the City of Owasso and either Rogers County or Tulsa County or even City of Collinsville on the northern end,” said Lt. Nick Boatman with Owasso Police. “But just call our dispatch center, we'll be able to get you to the right people."
