The Tulsa Zoo’s newest resident has a name: Jasiri.

The female giraffe calf, whose name means “courageous” in Swahili, was officially introduced to the public this week. Pronounced Jah-see-ree, the name reflects the young giraffe’s bold and curious nature.

At her most recent weigh-in, Jasiri tipped the scales at nearly 295 pounds and already stands 6 feet 8 inches tall. Visitors can see her in person at the zoo’s William S. Smith African Wilds complex.

The name was selected with help from the Hardesty Family Foundation, a longtime supporter of the zoo and sponsor of the new giraffe encounter area.
