A former Oilton Police officer has been charged in Creek County with assault and battery and kidnapping after trying to arrest a man more than a year ago.

Joseph Beers has also now been charged in a separate case with rape by instrumentation in Rogers County, from a 2019 case.

OSBI agents investigated both of these cases.

TIMELINE

Before 2019- Juvenile Convictions

OSBI investigators say Joseph Beers was convicted as a youthful offender when he was 17 years old for armed robbery and distribution of cocaine in Tulsa County.

They say Beers changed his name from Joseph Reeder to Joseph Beers after he got married.

August 2019- Rogers County Incident

OSBI investigators say a woman went out to a bar with a friend.

She told investigators she had a lot to drink and took an edible marijuana gummy.

She says she tried to drive home before she decided she couldn’t, and pulled over to the side of the road on Highway 412 to take a nap and called 911.

She says Beers knocked on her window and told her to get into his patrol vehicle.

She told investigators Beers told her she could call her mother to have her pick her up if Beers was allowed to touch her.

She says Beers then sexually assaulted her and could not consent because she was intoxicated.

Beers told investigators the sexual touching was consensual and she also touched him.

March 2024- Creek County Incident

The OSBI says Beers responded to a call about solicitors in Oilton which was against the city ordinance unless they had a permit.

They say Beers found the solicitors on the property of Willard Walbridge, who lived in Creek County just outside Oilton city limits.

Body camera footage shows Walbridge asking Beers to leave his property several times, as he did not believe Beers had jurisdiction there.

The footage shows Beers throwing Walbridge to the ground and investigators say Walbridge had a heart incident.

Walbridge was taken to the hospital.

Investigators say Beers tried to file charges against Walbridge for Battery or Assault on a Police Officer.

August 2024- Lawsuit Filed

Walbridge filed a lawsuit against Beers for the arrest.

The lawsuit accuses the officer of using excessive force against Walbridge and acting outside of his jurisdiction.

The lawsuit also brings up the 2019 case and attorneys argue Beers should have not been employed because of this.

Beers says he had to take action because he could be killed by an older citizen just like anyone else.

May 2025- Charges Filed

Charges were filed in Rogers County and Creek County against Beers.

Beers is being charged in Rogers County with rape by instrumentation from the 2019 incident.

Beers is being charged in Creek County with aggravated assault and battery, kidnapping, and trespassing from the 2024 incident.

Both are felony charges.

ATTORNEY RESPONSE

Chase McBride, who represents Walbridge, says he’s glad justice is finally happening in this case.

"One of our biggest complaints about Mr. Beers being an officer continually is he had prior issues long before he ever got involved with my client,” said McBride. “I think if those issues had been handled, it would have avoided some issues that arose later in his career."

He hopes anyone who has had concerning encounters with Beers will let investigators know.

"I think now is a good time that if anyone else has had an issue with this officer, that they come forward and contact the district attorney's office for whatever jurisdiction they were in,” said McBride.

News On 6 reached out to Beers but did not hear back.
