A Tulsa man has been acquitted of first-degree murder but convicted on a firearms charge in connection with a deadly shooting outside a laundromat in 2024.
A Tulsa County jury on Wednesday found Phillip Wright not guilty in the shooting death of Jermaine Wherry, who was killed while getting into a car near 6300 S. Peoria Ave. just before 11 p.m. on April 29, 2024.
Wherry was transported to the hospital by another person but died on the way to the hospital, according to Tulsa police.

Wright, who police say knew the victim, was arrested shortly after the incident. He faced a charge of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm after previously being convicted of a felony.
Jurors acquitted Wright of the murder charge but found him guilty of possessing a firearm after a prior felony conviction.
Wright was sentenced to 25 years with credit for time served. The sentence will run concurrently with a separate case, court records show.
