Across the state, many schools have implemented aviation programs to prepare their students for future careers, including Okmulgee High School.
Students enrolled in the program gathered at the regional airport to cap off their year of learning.
Jimmy Adams has always had a love for planes. Now, he gets to share that passion with his students at Okmulgee High School.
"I wish we had had an aviation class whenever I was in high school," said Adams.
To celebrate the end of the year, he invited his students to get a closer look at the skies by taking flight.
For Lovella Harjo, it was her first time in a plane.
"It was a weird feeling because you could feel it go up, and once it turns, you can feel everything like your intestines move and all that. it's like being on a rollercoaster," she said.
The goal of the day is not just for the students to leave with a memorable experience, but to think about what their futures could look like.
The kids got to hear from commercial pilots and members of Civil Air Patrol.
"Oklahoma is a big aerospace industry, especially pilots," said Zachary Rawson, a pilot. "Tulsa is a main hub for pilots; I hope they take the desire, they take that initial spark and continue their flight training on from high school."
Giving these kids the chance to soar to new heights.
