Tulsa police are investigating another violent attack at Turkey Mountain after a woman reported being raped late Monday night.

It marks the second random attack at the popular nature area in less than a month. City leaders say safety upgrades are underway as police continue their search for the suspect.

The latest attack

Police say the woman was walking near a trail overlooking the skyline around 10 p.m. Monday when she was assaulted. Officers are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity to contact investigators.

Last month, a woman jogging in the park was stabbed multiple times in the face. She survived.

Police response

Tulsa police say patrols will increase immediately. Helicopters and drones are being used to monitor the area while detectives follow up on leads.

Officials also want to connect existing park cameras to the police department’s real-time crime center to help with both monitoring and investigations.

City’s safety plans

Tulsa City Councilor Anthony Archie said two bicycle officers will begin regular patrols at Turkey Mountain by Sept. 1.

“I want to connect those cameras to our real-time information center so that folks in our TPD department can monitor what’s going on. And then also, long term, there’s a welcome center that’s going to be built,” Archie said.

The welcome center is expected to provide a staffed presence in the park once completed.

Community urged to help

Councilor Archie emphasized that patrol visibility is critical in the short term.

“We have to recognize crime knows no hour of the day. We want to be vigilant consistently, but I’ll be working with our partners at TPD to see when those patrols need to happen,” Archie said.

Police are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
