The University of Tulsa held another scrimmage on the turf of Chapman Stadium on Saturday morning. The scrimmage lasted nearly two hours, with the Hurricane running 70-80 plays. The scrimmage was a full practice run for game day, with TU warming up, running out, going into the locker room at halftime, and full communications.
The Hurricane rested its top 10-15 players due to several injuries, including concussions and broken hands. The big injury news came after the scrimmage, when head coach Tre Lamb announced that starting linebacker Chris Thompson Jr. will be out at least six weeks with a broken ankle.
The injury occurred earlier this week, and he has had successful surgery. Lamb is hoping to have him back by the start of conference play. If he has to miss substantially more time than that, Lamb says he will medical redshirt and come back for his 7th year.
"I was in tears when it happened. He's the best guy on the team. He's a quality human being, he's a quality player. It sucks. It's football, people are going to get hurt, and you just hope it's not your best guys and your best players," Head coach Tre Lamb said. "But he'll be fine, he's in great spirits. He's out of surgery; he cracked his fibula. He'll be back, Doc tells me six weeks. Sometimes they undersell and overdeliver. Sometimes that can mean five weeks, and I'd love to have him back by the time we play in conference."
Tulsa will continue to practice this next week, with a practice under the lights on Friday night, and another scrimmage next Saturday.
