The City of McAlester announced Tuesday that City Manager Dave Andren has resigned from his position and will no longer be serving the city.
Assistant City Manager Ken Wimer has been appointed to serve as interim city manager while city leaders begin the process of finding a permanent replacement. The City Council is expected to outline the next steps for the search in upcoming meetings.
City officials did not release additional details about the circumstances of Andren’s resignation, and it remains unclear whether he provided a reason for his departure.
McAlester Mayor Justin Few said in a statement that the city appreciates Andren’s service and is committed to a smooth transition.
“On behalf of the City of McAlester, I thank Dave Andren for his service as city manager and wish him the best in his future endeavors," Mayor Few said. "We are confident in Ken Wimer’s ability to lead as interim city manager during this transition. We will work diligently to select the best candidate to continue moving McAlester forward.”
Wimer will take on the role immediately. He will lead day-to-day operations until a permanent city manager is appointed.
The City Council has not set a timeline for hiring a new city manager.
