Families in Tulsa are getting a helping hand, thanks to a big community event aimed at connecting them with important resources.
Community Action Project of Tulsa County (CAP) serves families of children ages 4 and younger to help prepare them for school.
“Without a good foundation, we have all seen the results of that. It’s vital that we get children’s education started right now at the ground level.”
Families are getting an even bigger head start through CAP’s free community resource fair, which features dozens of community service providers. CAP's Child and Family Recruitment Team is out in the community constantly promoting CAP Tulsa. But Goodnight says this is a one-stop shop with a wide range of resources all under one roof.
“As soon as they're born, there’s steps, there’s things children need to be learning, cognitive skills, social skills, all of those things that we here at CAP believe is very important,” she said.
Shaelyn Jones has 7-year-old and 3-year-old daughters, who have already taken part in CAP’s programs. She says she’s seen the growth in both of them.
“They learned how to share, to grow, and just be more themselves and find their own personalities,” she said.
And while CAP helps her kids, as a single mother, she says it’s helped her too.
“Those little things that I didn't have a resource for or I didn't have support for, they are out to help in every which way," Jones said.
CAP Tulsa is already taking applications for this upcoming school year. It takes applications year-round. To apply, click here.
