The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has required Bartlesville Public Water Supply, located in Washington County, to inform users of its drinking water to use water that has been brought to a full, roiling boil for at least one minute, bottles water, or water from another acceptable source for consumption, use in food preparation, dishwashing and brushing teeth.
This order was issued due to E. coli in the drinking water. Users will be notified when the water is considered safe for human consumption. Federal law requires that consumers be notified when a public water supply exceeds certain minimum containment levels and might be harmful to the health of consumers.
Westside Community Center Executive Director Shavon Annette also confirmed the water contamination with an informational statement:
"I have received numerous messages about the water notice circulating online, and I want to make sure those who are not on social media are fully informed.
As of July 12, 2025, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has officially issued a boil order for the Bartlesville Public Water Supply due to the presence of E. coli in the drinking water.
This means all residents should boil water for at least one full minute before using it for:
Bottled water or water from another safe source is also acceptable.
This information has been confirmed directly through the official Oklahoma DEQ website, and residents will be notified once the water is deemed safe again."
