A main street in a historic Oklahoma town is getting a second life, thanks to a couple with a passion for the past. The Taylors revitalized a brick building built in the early 1900s in Nowata, turning it into an antique store, The Galloping Goose.
“The history means a lot to us to be able to make sure people know exactly what times were like back then and be able to get a store going to show the true antiques of what people used to live with back then,” said Brandi Taylor, owner of the Galloping Goose.
The store, named after the old trolley that used to operate in town, features several vendors. From Victorian furniture to World War heirlooms, the shop offers a variety of pieces from different time periods.
“It’s almost like a treasure hunt, and it is kind of like a sickness. Once you get into it, you can’t really stop, you don’t want to sell it,” Taylor said.
The building used to be home to Southwestern Bell’s Switchboard Office.

By breathing new life into the building, the Taylors are helping Nowata dust off its past and put it proudly on display.
“We have been able to go upstairs and find pieces of the old building of what they used it for. Just the whole realm of being here and having that history behind it means a lot too to be able to preserve it and to let people know that we really do cherish those days too and not wanting to take away from that either,” Taylor said.
Galloping Goose Antiques is open Wednesday through Sunday. For more information, click here.
