The City of Tulsa has started a sidewalk improvement project on 4th Street downtown, by Metrolink's Denver Station, where homeless people often find shade in the summer. New plastic netting has blocked off trees and part of the sidewalk where people often congregated.
A City spokesperson said, "The City of Tulsa is working every day to find alternatives and supportive services for individuals experiencing homelessness. The sidewalk project has highlighted our need to continue our work with outreach providers to ensure anyone in need of homelessness services can be directed to a place where they can access them. We are confident that between the work underway and the good work of our community response teams, solutions are in place as we work to meet our goals as a city."
Metrolink Tulsa now operates two special service buses daily from the Denver Station to Beheard, at 7216 E Admiral, where services are available for homeless individuals.
The City of Tulsa says the sidewalk project is part of a corridor plan for downtown, and the sidewalk between Denver and Cheyenne Avenue will be closed for several weeks.
