Emergency crews in Pawhuska have been working around the clock after powerful overnight storms caused widespread flooding, downed trees and citywide power outages.
The Pawhuska Police Department, Fire Department, Electric Department, Street Department, and the City Manager's Office have all been actively responding to storm-related damage since early Wednesday morning.
Including a water rescue around 2 a.m., when two people were safely retrieved from a flooded area.
As of Wednesday morning, the whole town is without power. Officials urged residents to stay home if possible and avoid driving through standing water or near downed power lines.
The Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority (OMPA) has dispatched a crew, with a second crew scheduled to deploy early Thursday. City leaders emphasized their commitment to restoring power and clearing roadways as quickly and safely as possible.
The local casino has agreed to open its doors to residents with medical needs, including those who rely on oxygen or electricity-dependent equipment.
The City of Pawhuska offices, the courthouse and public library will be closed on June 18 due to the damage and ongoing recovery efforts.
City officials asked residents to be patient and to steer clear of emergency crews working across town. Crews have been cutting downed trees, removing debris, and managing power lines throughout the night and into the morning.
