A man is in custody after the Oklahoma Highway Patrol says he drove the wrong way on the Inner Dispersal Loop in Tulsa and crashed into two motorcycles, killing one rider and injuring another.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the collision happened late Sunday near South Denver Avenue on the southeast corner of the IDL.
Troopers identified the suspect as 64-year-old James Basse. Investigators say Basse was heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of the IDL when he hit two motorcyclists just after 9 p.m. on Sunday.
OHP says Basse was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
21-year-old Carlos Arteaga of Broken Arrow died at the scene, according to troopers. The second rider is still in the hospital as of Monday morning.
According to records, Basse was booked into the Tulsa County Jail for driving under the influence and first-degree manslaughter.
He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
