Tulsa is honoring the memory of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre with a weekend of commemorative events aimed at remembrance, healing, and building a stronger future.
The Black Wall Street Legacy Festival kicks off Saturday and runs through Sunday, featuring free public events that spotlight the legacy of Greenwood and its residents. The festival includes educational panels, cultural programming, and community gatherings designed to uplift the stories of Black entrepreneurship, resilience, and recovery.
This year also marks the city’s first official Tulsa Race Massacre Observance Day, which will take place on Sunday. City leaders are preparing to make a major announcement during the observance, with Mayor Monroe Nichols set to unveil his “Road to Repair” plan.
According to officials, the mayor’s plan will focus on unity, historical healing, and future investment in the Tulsa communities most impacted by the massacre and its long-term effects.
In observance of the new city holiday, Tulsa City Hall, Municipal Court, and other city-run buildings will be closed on Monday.
