A Tulsa grocery store is tackling childhood hunger by launching a summer meal program that provides free breakfast and lunch to local children.

Oasis Fresh Market announced the return of its Oasis Summer Cafe, a community initiative offering free, healthy meals to children under 18. The program begins Monday, June 2 and runs through Friday, Aug. 8. It is designed to fill the nutrition gap many kids face once the school year ends.

Addressing a community need

During the school year, many students rely on school breakfasts and lunches for daily nourishment. When school lets out, those meals are no longer available, and for families already struggling, summer becomes an even greater challenge.

“Oasis isn’t just a place to shop. It’s a place where families are seen, supported and served,” said Aaron “AJ” Johnson, owner of Oasis Fresh Market. “Our goal has always been to provide more than groceries. We offer fresh, healthy food and help for the people who need it most.”

When and where to get meals

Oasis Summer Cafe will serve meals Monday through Friday at the market:

  1. Breakfast: 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
  2. Lunch: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Meals must be eaten on-site at 1725 N. Peoria Ave., Tulsa, OK 74106.

More than meals: A bigger mission

The Oasis Summer Cafe is part of a larger effort to eliminate food deserts and promote wellness in underserved communities. The market also runs programs like Double Up Oklahoma, which matches SNAP benefits up to $20 per day for fresh fruits and vegetables.

“Programs like Double Up Oklahoma help our neighbors stretch their dollars while choosing fresh, nourishing food,” Johnson said. “At Oasis, we’re not just putting food on tables. We’re breaking down barriers to health, dignity and opportunity.”

Powered by partnerships

This year’s initiative is made possible through partnerships with Tulsa Public Schools’ Summer Feeding Program, tribal organizations and other local groups working to address hunger in the community.

How to get involved

Oasis Fresh Market is inviting local businesses, churches and community leaders to help sponsor the program. A donation of $1,000 can fund one full week of healthy meals for 200 children. Sponsors will be recognized at the market and across digital platforms.
