Malachi Witherspoon Shines as Sooners Top Huskers in NCAA Opener
Oklahoma head coach Skip Johnson rolled the dice in Friday’s NCAA Tournament opener, saving ace Kyson Witherspoon and handing the ball to his twin brother Malachi and the gamble paid off. Malachi delivered his best outing of the season with six scoreless innings against Nebraska, leading the Sooners to a 7-4 win in the Chapel Hill Regional. Freshman Drew Dickerson and slugger Easton Carmichael each homered to power OU’s offense. With the victory, Oklahoma advances to the winners bracket and will face No. 1 overall seed North Carolina on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT, with a spot in the driver’s seat of the regional on the line.
