The Claremore Museum of History plans to build a "Legacy Garden" in front of the museum, as it begins to make plans for major building expansion.

The Oklahoma Route 66 Commission awarded the Museum $504,000 in a Revitalization grant for the project, in the run-up to the Centennial of Route 66 in 2026. The award came in the third round of approvals for the grants.

A grant awarded under the same program is funding a sign installation and small park in Bristow.

The museum already has mock-ups for statues of playwright Lynn Riggs and singer Patti Page, in addition to a completed statue of Andy Payne, a runner famous for winning the "Bunion Derby" along Route 66. The next statues for the garden will be astronaut Stuart Roosa and philanthropist Helen Walton.
