A mother and her three children can finally leave their home after the May 20 tornado, thanks to the help of an Oklahoma Department of Corrections inmate work crew.

The family was stuck in their rural home for more than a week after the EF-3 tornado downed trees and blocked the road that led to their house.

Since Pittsburg County crews were spread thin, they went to social media to ask for help. Mack Alford Correctional Center Warden Margaret Green saw it and put together a work crew with about a dozen inmate volunteers.

The Department of Corrections says the county told them it would have taken their crews several more days to reach the family. The prisoners cleared the road in a few hours.
