A triple shooting at a Downtown Tulsa gas station on Memorial Day left a male suspect dead and two other people hurt, including an off-duty security guard.

It happened at the QuikTrip at 15th and Denver around 8:30 p.m., according to Tulsa Police.

Officers responded to the scene and found three shooting victims: the suspect, an off-duty security guard, and a woman, who police say was an innocent bystander.

Investigators say the suspect, Ryan Mitchell, arrived at the store with his girlfriend, and they were arguing, and it got heated.

UPDATE FROM 5/27/25:

A witness called the security officer from the store outside to help de-escalate. TPD says a separate off-duty security officer who happened to be inside the store at the time told police he saw the suspect pull out a gun while speaking to the on-duty officer.

The off-duty officer went and confronted the suspect, and shots were fired, where both the off-duty security officer and the suspect were struck. TPD says both security officers fired at the suspect. The department said the suspect was hospitalized and later died.

"This entire sequence of events started because of his decisions that night to be intoxicated, carry a gun, wave it around, fight with his significant other, then it escalated into him shooting and exchanging gunfire with two security officers," said Captain Richard Meulenberg with Tulsa Police.

During the shooting, police said a woman across the street was struck by a stray bullet in the stomach and was hospitalized. She's expected to survive.

"Nobody has been arrested thus far. It looks as though your primary agitator is going to be the person who did die," said Meulenberg.

"Due to the complexity of this case, all the evidentiary details and investigative findings will be submitted to the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office. The DA’s Office will thoroughly review the details and determine if charges are warranted."

QuikTrip spokesperson Aisha Jefferson sent us a statement:

“QuikTrip’s top priority is the safety and well-being of our employees, customers, and the communities we serve. We are deeply grateful to the Tulsa Police Department, Tulsa Fire Department, and EMSA for their swift response to the incident at our 15th and Denver location and are actively supporting their ongoing investigation.”

A man is dead and two other people are hurt after a shooting Monday night outside a QuikTrip near 15th Street and Denver Avenue in Tulsa, according to police.

Tulsa Police confirmed the altercation-turned-shooting involved the man who was killed, an off-duty security guard, and a woman walking across the street nearby.

Police at the scene told News On 6 the shooting happened just before 9 p.m. The identity of the man who was shot and killed has not been released. The conditions of the other two have not been released.

The QuikTrip was shut down for hours while detectives collected evidence.

Witnesses, believed to be family or friends of one of the victims, gathered at the scene shortly after the shooting. One witness said it sounded like Fourth of July firecrackers.

"I almost thought it was firecrackers. It's Memorial Day, you know. I was like maybe someone's throwing them in the street, but when I started seeing the police pull up, I was like I don't think that's firecrackers, that's not good."

Police say it’s unclear what led to the gunfire, though it followed some kind of conversation.
