Billy and Tina, two Asian elephants from the Los Angeles Zoo, arrived at the Tulsa Zoo on Wednesday, where they are now settling into their new home and beginning the next chapter of their journey.

Tulsa Zoo staff say both elephants traveled well and remained calm throughout their 26-hour journey, thanks in part to months of pre-move training.
Billy and Tina were successfully reintroduced upon arrival and could be heard trumpeting in the Elephant Preserve Barn, according to zoo officials. They will remain in quarantine for the next several weeks, a standard safety and acclimation protocol that allows them to see, smell and hear the rest of the herd from a safe distance.
Though they may not be immediately viewable to guests, visitors may catch a glimpse of the elephants from time to time during their adjustment period.
Tulsa Zoo’s animal care team is working closely with counterparts from the Los Angeles Zoo to ensure a smooth transition and support the individual needs of both elephants.

“Being together during the quarantine period is best for their social needs and wellbeing,” the zoo shared.
They also said they are proud to continue the legacy of care established by the Los Angeles Zoo team.
Billy and Tina’s arrival marks an important moment for the Tulsa Zoo’s Elephant Preserve, as the zoo continues its mission to provide a dynamic, compassionate environment for elephants and expand its conservation efforts.
