A landmark in Tulsa’s spiritual and architectural history will mark a major milestone this Sunday as First Presbyterian Church celebrates the 100th anniversary of its iconic downtown Sanctuary.
Located at 709 S. Boston Avenue, the church has played a vital role in the city’s growth and community life for over a century. While the congregation itself was founded in 1885, the current Sanctuary was completed and dedicated in May 1925. The First Church is a structure that has stood through generations as a symbol of faith and service.
To commemorate the occasion, identical worship services will be held at 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, featuring hymns, scripture readings, and liturgy drawn from the church’s original 1925 dedication service. Each service will begin with a living history presentation that highlights key figures and moments from First Church’s journey over the past 140 years.
Following worship, guests are invited to a light lunch and special reception in the church Atrium, where they can enjoy music from The Cornerstone Quartet, featuring Ron Pearson, Eric Baird, Brad Morgan, and John Frame, and take a nostalgic look back at life in 1925.
Church leaders say the celebration is not only a tribute to the past, but also a recommitment to the congregation’s mission for the future.
The public is welcome to attend. For more information, visit First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa’s website.
