A Tulsa-based literacy nonprofit is growing its impact in Union Public Schools and calling on community volunteers to help students boost their reading skills.

Starting in the 2025-26 school year, Reading Partners will serve students at 10 Union elementary schools. The organization is actively recruiting volunteer tutors — no prior teaching experience needed, and just one hour a week can make a meaningful difference.

Here’s what you need to know about the program and how to get involved:

Schools Participating

Starting this fall, Reading Partners will serve students at 10 Union elementary schools, up from previous years.

The participating schools are:

  1. Boevers Elementary
  2. Darnaby Elementary
  3. Jarman Elementary
  4. Jefferson Elementary
  5. McAuliffe Elementary
  6. Moore Elementary
  7. Ellen Ochoa Elementary
  8. Peters Elementary
  9. Rosa Parks Elementary
  10. Roy Clark Elementary

How the Program Works

Reading Partners trains volunteers to work one-on-one with students using a structured curriculum focused on building foundational literacy skills.

Tutors meet with students for one hour per week during the school day. Sessions are guided and supported by school-based coordinators.
