One person was arrested after Tulsa police said they opened fire on someone in a car in a neighborhood near 46th Street North and Peoria Avenue.

Officers said the suspect was visiting someone at a home when they began shooting at a person who pulled up in a vehicle. Witnesses told police the person in the car returned fire.

Several nearby homes and vehicles were hit by gunfire, but no injuries were reported.

“There are kids walking around, there are people living here. It’s miraculous people weren’t hurt,” said Tulsa Police Capt. Richard Meulenberg.

Police said the suspect who fired first was arrested on a complaint of shooting with intent to kill. Their name has not been released at this time.

Investigators said the second individual is unlikely to face charges, as officers believe they acted in self-defense. However, evidence will be collected, and the district attorney's office will make that decision.

Whitman, Hawthorn, Northstar Academy, and McClain schools were placed on a brief lockdown during the investigation, but those lockdowns were lifted shortly after.
