The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office honored its fallen deputies during a memorial ceremony held May 15 at Chandler Park Community Center.
The event paid tribute to the 13 deputies who have died in the line of duty since 1909, highlighting their service and sacrifice to the community.
Thirteen deputies have lost their lives in the line of duty since the founding of the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. Thursday’s ceremony served as a symbolic remembrance of each individual’s service and a reaffirmation of the agency’s commitment to honoring those who gave their lives.
Officials say the ceremony is an annual reminder of the risks deputies face and the legacy each one leaves behind.
This year’s ceremony included a special recognition for Sergeant John Harris, the most recent deputy to die while serving. Harris passed away in August 2021 at the age of 43 after contracting COVID-19 on the job.
His memory was honored alongside others during the event, marking his continued presence in the hearts of his colleagues and community.
The ceremony began at 10 a.m. and was open to all Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office employees, invited guests, and families of the fallen. Department officials said the gathering was a time for reflection, unity and shared gratitude.
As the Sheriff’s Office continues to serve Tulsa County, leaders say they remain committed to keeping the memory of fallen deputies alive through ongoing traditions and community recognition.
Residents are encouraged to support law enforcement families and take part in future observances.
