Volunteers will gather at Skiatook Lake on Saturday, May 10, for a community clean-up event hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Skiatook Lake Association.

The goal: to clear trash and debris from the shoreline while promoting environmental stewardship and community involvement.

Here’s what you need to know if you’re thinking about joining:

1. The event is set for Saturday, May 10

Cleanup efforts will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Osage Park Recreation Area near Skiatook Lake.

2. Everyone is welcome

Organizers say the event is open to all ages and encourages families to participate together. It's a chance to enjoy the outdoors while making a visible difference.

3. Gloves not included

While all tools and supplies will be provided, volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves.

4. Dress for the weather and terrain

Participants should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Be sure to pack sunscreen, a hat, and water to stay safe in the sun, and snacks are a good idea, too.

5. It’s a collaboration between the community and the government

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Skiatook Lake Association are teaming up to host the cleanup, which is part of a broader initiative to maintain the lake's natural beauty.
