Renée Fleming will make her Tulsa Opera debut with Voice of Nature: The Anthropocene, a multimedia concert on Saturday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m. at Chapman Music Hall in the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.

Inspired by nature walks during the COVID-19 pandemic, the concert is based on her Grammy-winning album and features an eclectic program of classical art songs, opera, Broadway, and contemporary works, including a song by Icelandic artist Björk.

The performance includes original film content from National Geographic and will be accompanied by the Tulsa Opera Orchestra under the direction of conductor Robert Moody.

Among the program highlights is Fleming’s signature aria, Song to the Moon from Rusalka. The concert also includes a piece composed specifically for Fleming by John Kander, best known for Chicago and Cabaret.

Music and Mind Panel To Explore Arts and Wellness

In addition to the concert, Fleming will moderate the Music and Mind panel on Friday, May 9, from noon to 2 p.m. at Founders Hall in the Schusterman Center on the OU-Tulsa campus.

The discussion will explore the links between music, brain health, and wellness, and includes panelists Dr. Linda Barnum of OU-Tulsa, Zack Stoycoff of the Healthy Minds Policy Initiative, and music therapist Jenny Cook of the National Songs by Heart Foundation.

Those in attendance will receive a copy of Fleming’s new anthology, Music and Mind: Harnessing the Arts for Health and Wellness, as part of the ticket price.

Tickets for both events are available at tulsaopera.com or by calling the Tulsa Opera Box Office at 918-582-3133.
