Hominy residents grateful for running water—but boil order still in effect

Residents of Hominy, Oklahoma, now have running water again after flooding caused a major water line break last week. While repairs have restored service, a boil order remains in place as officials test the water's safety. The city continues to distribute bottled water, with help from the Osage Nation and local volunteers. Many residents, like Ashley Walker, say they’re grateful for the support during the outage.

People in Hominy, Oklahoma, are relieved to have running water again after days without it. Flooding last week caused a break in the city's main water line, which took several days to repair.

Boil Order Remains While Water Safety is Tested

Although water is flowing again, residents are still under a boil order while the Department of Environmental Quality ensures the water is safe to drink. Officials say the testing period lasts 72 hours.

City Continues Bottled Water Distribution

The city is continuing to distribute bottled water for free. Many residents have relied on the support throughout the outage.

“It Helped a Lot” – Locals Appreciate Community Efforts

Ashley Walker, a lifelong Hominy resident, said she’s been picking up bottled water nearly every day.

“Maybe a year ago we had the boil water order that we went through, but it wasn’t no water,” Walker said.

She said the bottled water helped her family get by, especially after a weekend of sports.

“They were coming home needing to shower, and we would have to split the bottle of waters up… and that’s how we got it done,” Walker said.

Osage Nation Provides Crucial Support

Emergency Management Manager Felix Nance said the Osage Nation stepped in to help.

“They provided 10 pallets this weekend for us… six more this morning. We’re surviving on that,” Nance said.

He said that once the Department of Environmental Quality gives the all-clear, normal services will resume.

Community Spirit Carries Hominy Through Crisis

With a population of around 3,200, Nance praised the community’s response and volunteer efforts during the water crisis.

Ashley Walker echoed the sentiment:

“I’m just thankful for all of the city workers and even the community, like we survived,” Walker said.

Water Distribution Site Still Open

The water distribution site will remain open for the next two days from 1 to 6 p.m.
