Claremore Police are warning about a scam going around Oklahoma involving things sold through third-party online markets, like Facebook Marketplace.

What's the scam?

Scammers are using real people's names and pictures to make fake social media accounts.

They'll use those accounts to list expensive items like vehicles for sale.

When someone reaches out about buying the item, the scammer asks for a deposit or down payment. They'll also send a QR code to the victim, asking the victim to use the link to pay the installment.

How can I protect myself?

-Never send money online to someone you haven't met

-Meet sellers in a public place, like a police department or bank lobby, where there are security cameras

-Pay in person

-If something seems suspicious, call police
