Tulsa's River Parks announced a $2 million lead donation from BOK Financial for a Turkey Mountain Visitor's Center to be called the "BOK Hub."
River Parks Executive Director Jeff Edwards said with approximately 300,000 visits per year, and more amenities coming online soon, demand is great for more parking, more bathrooms, and more outdoor-related programming at Turkey.
"The mountain bike scene is advancing nicely. It's drawing tourists to Tulsa and attracting sales tax dollars, and we have to capitalize on that momentum."
The BOK Hub is estimated to cost $8 million, and Edwards said fundraising for the remainder is underway.
The center is another large project in the Turkey Mountain Master Plan, which includes about $15 million of improvements to the already popular attraction. The next feature to open will be "The Rock Yard" on the South end of the urban wilderness area.
Gloria Cardamone and Pamela Buchanan are regulars at Turkey, and both liked what they saw of the BOK Hub in renderings unveiled Monday.
"Very excited, I've been coming here for 35 years and it's wonderful," said Cardamone.
"And I just moved her from Chicago, and we love it, and this was the very first place we came to run," said Buchanan.
