A Mexican national previously deported in 2006 for killing his infant son was arrested in Catoosa after unlawfully reentering the United States, federal prosecutors said Wednesday.
The DOJ said Carlos Ambriz Estrada, 53, pleaded guilty to deliberate homicide in 1994 for the death of his 36-day-old son in Montana. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison and served nearly 10 before being released in 2006 and deported.
Now, Ambriz Estrada is indicted for unlawfully reentering the country.
“After serving time in prison for killing his 38-day-old son, Ambriz Estrada was deported. That did not stop him from unlawfully returning to the United States and living in our community,” said U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. “Prosecutors are working in coordinated efforts with law enforcement to help keep the citizens in the Northern District safe from violent criminals like Ambriz Estrada.”
The Fugitive Operations Team with Immigration Customs Enforcement began investigating Ambriz Estrada in March.
