The Tulsa City Councilor over Turkey Mountain wants to add more safety measures after a second woman was randomly attacked there in the last month.

What happened at Turkey Mountain?

A woman told Tulsa Police she came out to enjoy the view of the skyline and was raped Monday night.

On July 24th, a woman was stabbed in the face several times while she was jogging at Turkey Mountain.

"This is certainly a setback that I was not happy to hear about," Anthony Archie, Tulsa City Councilor, District 2.

Police say attacks like this are rare, but Melissa Armstrong isn't taking any chances.

"I usually don't ride alone. I do try to have someone with me and always during the daytime."

Added safety measures

After the first attack, Tulsa City Councilor Anthony Archie met with the River Parks Authority team about adding more bike patrols, and he says two will be added on September 1.

"We have to recognize crime knows no hour of the day. We want to be vigilant consistently, but I'll be working with our partners at TPD to see when those patrols need to happen," said Archie.

They also plan to connect the park's cameras to TPD's Real-Time Information Center and eventually build a welcome center.

"There are no staff consistently on Turkey Mountain, but once that Welcome Center is built, there'll be more of a presence. Those are plans that are in the works. Obviously, they can't get here fast enough," said Archie.

River Parks Authority statement

"We are concerned that some individuals have used Tulsa’s green spaces to commit acts of violence. These parks are meant to be places of peace, recreation, and connection…not fear.
River Parks has worked tirelessly over the years to improve access by expanding trails, enhancing amenities, and creating environments where families, runners, cyclists, and nature lovers can feel safe and welcome.
Safety is not a one-time initiative, it’s a daily commitment. We remain vigilant, responsive, and dedicated to protecting the spaces that mean so much to our community."

What's next?

Councilor Archie will be meeting with TPD, Tulsa Fire, River Parks Authority, and the mayor's office to talk about adding additional safety measures.
