A woman and her husband, trying to catch a glimpse of a meteor shower, instead witnessed a spiraling light and recorded video of it.
Carrie Schnell said she and her husband were lying on the trampoline Tuesday night, hoping to see shooting stars during the peak of the Perseid meteor shower.
She said that at about 9:36 p.m., she and her husband saw a swirling light in the eastern sky that moved toward them, then went north until it was no longer in view. She posted the video and some photos on Facebook and TikTok, asking friends if they saw it and could identify it.
The timing coincides with a rocket launch at Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Wednesday night.
United Launch Alliance launched a Vulcan rocket carrying the USSF-106 mission for the United States Space Force’s Space Systems Command. ULA says the rocket lifted off on Aug. 12 at 7:56 p.m. Central Time from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
