Big 12 to release public player availability reports for football and basketball starting this season

Beginning with the 2025-26 season, the Big 12 Conference will publicly provide player availability reports for all conference games in football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball. Approved by all member institutions, the policy will include updates in the days leading up to each game, as well as a final report 90 minutes prior to kickoff or tip-off.

How the Big 12 Reports Will Work

1. Football: Programs will submit daily reports beginning three days before each game. Players will be designated as available, probable, questionable, doubtful, or out. A final report will be released 90 minutes before kickoff.
2. Basketball: Men’s and women’s teams will submit availability reports the night before each contest, with designations of available, game-time decision, or out.

All reports will be housed exclusively on Big12Sports.com, giving fans and media a centralized source for accurate, up-to-date information.

Big 12 Joins Other Power Conferences

The Big 12 becomes the latest Power Five league to implement these reporting standards:

1. Big Ten: First Power Five conference to require football availability reports in 2023.
2. SEC: Began football reporting in 2024, using similar designations.
3. ACC: Will start public availability reports for the first time this season, like the Big 12.

This move aligns the Big 12 with practices seen in the NFL and other Power Five conferences, promoting transparency while helping protect student-athletes from external pressures.
