Metro Christian has become a 2A powerhouse in the last decade. The Patriots have won a pair of state titles and have made several deep playoff runs. Now in 2025, they're ready to add a third gold ball to their trophy case.

"It's a great time of year. Fall, football season, we're pretty fired up," says head coach Jared McCoy.

The Patriots are coming off a 12-1 season, but that one loss came in the Class 2A-I playoffs. And that has driven this team all offseason.

"All last year I was wanting to bring that gold ball home. It was devastating to lose in the semifinals to Washington, especially as badly as we did," says senior quarterback Kincayde Eng.

The Patriots have several players returning in key positions, including quarterback Kincayde Eng. Metro head coach Jared McCoy has high praise for the confidence and decision-making of his senior quarterback heading into 2025.

"They can make a lot of wrong decisions, but with a lot of confidence, they can put the ball where they want. Or check the play that you want it checked. Confidence can make up for a lot of mistakes. That experience of having done it before," says McCoy.

Eng will lead a spread offense that can light up a scoreboard, and he's excited about the weapons the Patriots have on offense.

"Spread offense, I've been running it since I was a kid. My understanding of it's really improved and I'm really excited to take advantage of that," says Eng.

Despite the experience coming back on both sides of the ball, McCoy says it will take time to figure out the other pieces of the roster.

"With our three non-district games, we are going to move guys around. We're going to try and learn some things about us, and figure out who plays best where. I think every year you do that, but this year it'll be really important."

Expectations are high once again this season for the Patriots, and that's something this team is embracing.

"Pressure is a privilege to me. Obviously, I know it and it's on my mind, but I'm also excited to get going and take advantage of the opportunity," says Eng.

Metro Christian opens the season at home on August 29th, as the Patriots host Chisholm.
